Xbox to Offer Cable TV Content

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console has taken another step towards becoming an all-in-one media hub in consumers’ homes. The company has announced that nearly 40 content providers, including Comcast, Verizon and HBO, will stream content via Xbox Live this holiday.

Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business, offered the following on the news:

“Today’s announcement is a major step toward realizing our vision to bring you all the entertainment you want, shared with the people you care about, made easy,”

The new content will not be free, however. Consumers will need to be subscribers to content providers such as HBO in order to view that provider’s programming.

Will the addition of cable content to the Xbox boost console sales and position the device as the core of consumers’ home entertainment experience?

Um, wait, what? If you have to be an HBO or other content subscriber to access the content, you already have the content, a box to access it, and a TV to watch it on. Why do you need to screw around with Xbox live streaming?

People can still get HBO and Cinemax without a cable box through basic cable. These people don’t have onDemand services, so I’m guessing it would benefit them the most.

What’s the point if I’m already an HBO subscriber (or other)?

Maybe HBO is testing the waters and opening up it’s HBOGO service to streaming devices with out the need for a cable subscription? This will not make the cable companies happy, but I believe HBO could make so much more money this way.

Agreed. All content providers should offer their channels via streaming on an a la carte basis, rather than in a bundled cable package. Give everyone the access to content independent of cable/satellite provider. I am looking forward to the day when this finally happens.

I have cable and HBO. Why do I need it on my XBOX?

I`m sure Wii and PS3 will shortly join in.

I don’t think HBOgo is available for downloads through DirecTV–I thought it was just a website. If that’s the case, the number of older shows/movies I could watch via XBOX360 streaming on my ridiculously large television would jump up. I know you can DL some HBO content already through the DVR, but I didn’t think it was all of it. Or maybe I’m wrong, in which case I chalk it up to lack of sleep. zzzzz

People, I don’t think they thought somebody who has a cable box and HBO or whichever service already being viewed to use this on that particular tv. I know that were sheep and all but why do the masses always get questionable about the wrong things. Common sense says that you would use it in that room in your house without a cable box giving that tv access to more entertainment without adding more to your cable bill with an additional box. I also think the person who spoke before was onto something when they said that some of these providers could be testing the waters on a possible ala carte situation in the future. That would be tuff to pull off the cable companies would loose big time cause who would buy a cable package if all they need is an Internet connection and get all the channels they really want and none of those channels that they don’t. I understand where some of the people are coming from cause this is not a cord cutting deal at all. However it could benefit people that just want more than Netflix coming out of the xbox in a room without another hookups.

They need to be careful. I could have my xbox account in another household. Now 2 residences have HBO for the price of one.

Definitely imagine that which you said. Your favourite justification appeared to be on the net the easiest factor to be mindful of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed whilst people consider worries that they just don’t realize about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also outlined out the entire thing with no need side effect , other people could take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thank you
