Walmart just made the VOD experience a little simpler for its customers.

Video-on-demand service Vudu, which was acquired by Walmart a while back, has been folded into the retail giant’s website. Customers can now stream titles directly from Walmart.com, Vudu.com or an Vudu-enabled device.
Users can also vote on Walmart’s Facebook page for their favorite new release movie of the week. Each week’s winner will be made available that Friday for 99-cents.
Edward Lichty, GM of Vudu, offered the following on the merging of the sites:
“This integration allows us to introduce more Walmart.com customers to digital entertainment and give them access to thousands of new release and popular movie titles immediately through Vudu’s streaming service . . . By incorporating digital movie content into the Walmart.

com entertainment shopping experience, we’re enabling customers to easily choose how they want to enjoy their entertainment content — whether that be through a physical DVD, digital streaming or both.”
Has Walmart seen the writing on the wall with its ever-decreasing DVD sales and decided to make streaming even more of a push? Have you used Vudu, and if so, what was your experience like?

My Vizio TV has Vudu- quality is pretty good- sometimes approaches Blu-Ray resolution but has noticeable compression artifacts during motion. Only streaming service I’ve seen that delivers 5.1 sound. Most movies are $4 which is too much, but I usually get their daily 99 cent movie if it’s one I haven’t seen.
I wish Wal-Mart hadn’t bought Vudu though- before they did, porn was available on it, but the Wal-Mart Nazis yanked it when they took it over!
Great, thanks
one-time movie rentals range from $.99 to $5.99.
If Walmart doesn’t make Vudu available on Roku it’s a no starter. I for one won’t buy a new piece of hardware just to get Vudu. Walmart isn’t a socially responsible company and I wish someone else had bought Vudu other than them.
