Free movie monday is upon us again, and as you probably know by now, Redbox sends out the one-time use promo codes via text message to those subscribed to their SMS alerts here.

I got my code earlier than usual today.

      Two codes SMLVCTS & G4HT3GV fail to work. Either claim used or not valid at location (tried two LUCKY STORE AND CVS both in 94521 area.
      This is becoming routine and should be corrected

        The code that Michael posted is a one time use only. Not one time per person, just one time in total. Clearly someone else (keyrom) has taken the code which you should have seen.

    I never get a code. I sign up, wait for the next Movie Monday, get nothing. Sign up again on Tuesday. I’ve done this since they started the text messages. Nada.

      Same thing is happening to me. I have double, triple, and quadruple checked that I have all of the information entered correctly and had all of the correct boxes checked. I checked to make sure my carrier was supported, which it is. This is the third or fourth month that I have been signed up for it but still have yet to get a free code by text.

      I decided I should talk to customer service. I sent them an email stating my problem. They got back to me with a (obviously copied and pasted) list of directions on how to manage the “Edit Notifications & Subscriptions” section like I’m stupid or something. All of my information is in right but they just aren’t sending me my free code every month. I could go without a free code but when they advertise and say that they will send you one, but don’t…that just annoys me and makes me really mad.

    I only use Google Voice for my text messages (not worth paying the extra $7 a month with my plan) but I cannot seem to get them to ever text me a code. I also have signed up repeatedly, but they always require me to enter my carrier. Since Google isn’t on there I have chosen randomly several times in hopes of getting one to actually go through, but it looks to me that I am out of luck unless I want to start paying for text messages I will only occasionally use.

      Google Voice is tricky with that. Only another phone can easily text a Google-Voice number.

      Its not asking what text message service you use, its asking what phone service provider like att, virizon, sprint, or tmobile. If you are not using a cell phone when you use your text service then that’s why you won’t get a code

    When I get my code number it says I can only use it once and it won’t work if I share it. So what’s the point of posting it here, even if it does work the one time home many people are going to try to use it if everyone writes it down to use it, after the first time its used its no good to the rest of the people trying and they waste their time?????

    I never have any luck using “used” codes…….then I get stuck paying for the movie when it refuses to credit my account for the free rental…so I get screwed by redbox twice….once for signing up to get free rentals and then when your web site bloggers give me their code to use for free!!!! NO THANKS!!

    Since you’ve been doing text codes on Mondays I haven’t gotten a single free movie because I don’t have a cell. People are offering theirs on this site, but I’m sure they’ll be gone by the time I get downtown to a Redbox.

      I have never gotten a code by text, even though I have signed up, but I understand why they can’t e-mail them out. I’m sure they realized that the multple-use codes couldn’t be limited to 1 per person, just 1 per credit card. Because of this, they decided to use 1-time use codes instead. The problem with e-mailing them is that certain people either already have, or would create multiple e-mail accounts just to get free codes. Due to the fact that the average person could/would have more e-mail addresses than credit cards, make e-mailing the codes a worse idea than having multiple-use codes.

    I like getting my codes text to me rather than email. If I am out and don’t have email I get my code and can pick up a movie on the way home.

    I am a little amazed at the negativity coming through here from a few of you. It is a free movie..and if choose to rent a movie, it’s only a dollar. Cheaper than paying for texting.
    As a fellow user I would much rather keep this positive and thankful instead of turning this into a gripe session. :)

      I agree with you. $1 dollar movie, free movie…both are good deals.

      For those of us who don’t get the code text, please understand that it has nothing to do with fairness or discrimination. It has to do with contracts that Redbox has with certain cellphone carriers. I have what I consider the best cellphone plan for me, but that means I miss out on saving a buck once in a while. This is better than paying $20 more per month for a phone that I can get Redbox codes on.

      Go rent a movie for a buck and be happy people! Remember the old days when the only option was $5 Blockbuster rentals?

    Thanks. Received code @ 8:50 am – used to get it about 10:15 or so. How come you aren’t covering the non-text and/or non-cell customers? Lots of folks seem to be in that boat. My brother gave me this phone or I’d be there too.

    I guess I just haven’t figured out how to receive or retrieve a promo code. I never see it or instructions on how to receive it. Maybe this Red Box deal is not for me. It just doesn’t seem to be very “User Friendly”.

    This is discrimination what is the deal it’s not even fair. I rent at redbox all the time and they used to do promo codes by e-mail. Cricket is my cell phone carrier and I get txt messaging but it is only limited to certain carriers whats up with that. Redbox you had such a good thing going and now your doing this. Honestly it stinks and I disagree!

    every promo code i have gotten sent to me either by phone or in mail has said not valid or alreay has been used. its getting to be where when i get them i dont even try because it never works whats the point in free movie monday or whatever it is a real let down
