News is all over the internet that Verizon and Redbox will be joining forces and launching a streaming service in a few months.

Many people are excited about the news, but is it a good move for the companies, especially Verizon?

Gadget blog SlashGear, for example, is not holding back with its dismissal of the rumored service:

Verizon’s decision to get into the streaming business is one of the more laughable ideas I’ve heard in a while. Yes, it has the cash to develop the distribution platform and using the Redbox name will help, but did the company forget about the many aspects of the streaming business that make it potentially dangerous?

The “dangerous” aspects of the streaming business that SlashGear is referring to include a wounded-but-still-dangerous Netflix, Amazon’s expanding streaming offering, and other competitors such as Vudu, Hulu, and Apple.

Should Verizon and Redbox launch a joint streaming service, is the situation really that grim for them? Is it too late for another major player to throw their hat into the crowded streaming marketplace?

As every ones moves to streaming the cable company’s are getting ready too
up the prices more and more on internet service so we should be paying $100.00
per month soon. as of now Bright House Cable is charging $53.00 per month.

I do have to agree, cable companies are getting out of control with prices and the service is still to slow for what you are paying. The cable companies know they are dinosaurs on the edge of extinction and are trying to get into our pockets in any way they can.

I agree, The Cable companies have gone out of control. I have caned my cable. I just have the High speed net now. I was paying about $120.00 a month for High Speed net and about 60 TV Chan. Most were crap. Now I am down to $54.00 a month. And have Hulu . And I now have Block Buster. $16.50 a month And get 16 DVDs a month. And no 30 day wait.
    It works for me.

I don’t go to RedBox any more. I see the same old DVD’s. The price is ok. But I know have Block Buster. I get 16 DVD’s a month. $16.50 a month. And no wait 30 days for the New Ones.
I do stop by and look at Red Box when I am at the store. Maybe I will find something again someday?
