Welcome to another edition of Inside Redbox’s Preview Review, where we recap the movies that will be coming out in theaters this weekend. The goal of this feature is to help you make your weekend movie-watching plans, as well as to note movies that you want to Redbox in a few months when they come out on DVD.
Picking which major release to watch this weekend should be a pretty simple choice, as the two choices could not be more different. In this corner, you’ve got Priest, a dark thriller set in an alternate reality starring a vampire-hunting, knife-wielding cleric. In the other corner you’ve got Bridesmaids, a comedy about a bizzare group of bridesmaids from the mind of Judd Apatow. Descriptions and trailers for the wide releases coming out on May 13 are after the jump.
Priest
Take one part Dune, one part Underworld, throw in a little bit of Blade Runner, and you get Priest. Paul Bettany plays the titular warrior monk in this futuristic, sci-fi thriller. Fans of the aforementioned films and of post-apocalyptic science fiction in general should enjoy this one. Rated PG-13.
Bridesmaids
Producer Judd Apatow, best known for Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin, brings us a comedy starring an eclectic cast of women led by SNL’s Kristen Wiig. This film should have all the hallmarks of an Apatow film: humor, a little heart and lots and lots of dirty jokes. Definitely not your typical “OMG, my best friend is getting married!” romantic comedy. Rated R.
Other films coming out in limited release include Skateland, Everything Must Go, Hesher and True Legend.
Will any of this week’s movies get you out to theaters, Insiders? Let us know in the comments.
Might go see Bridesmaids. Priest will wait for a code rental.
