imagesNetflix has scored yet another original series to help itself further stand out in the crowded streaming biz. The company has secured the rights to Sense8, a show from the creative forces behind The Matrix movies.

The 10-part  series, which Netflix described as “a gripping global tale of minds linked and souls hunted” will launch exclusively on Netflix next year.

The show comes from the minds of the Wachowski siblings and Joe Straczynski.

Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said the following about the new series:

“Andy and Lana Wachowski and Joe Straczynski are among the most imaginative writers and gifted visual storytellers of our time . . . Their incredible creations are favorites of Netflix members globally.”

The Wachowskis said the following in a statement:

“We’re excited to work with Netflix and Georgeville Television on this project, and we’ve wanted to work with Joe Straczynski for years, chiefly due to the fact his name is harder to pronounce than ours, but also because we share a love of genre and all things nerdy . . . Several years ago, we had a late-night conversation about the ways technology simultaneously unites and divides us, and out of that paradox ‘Sense8’ was born.”

With House of Cards, Arrested Development, Hemlock Grove and other exclusive shows, Netflix is clearly moving further down the road toward its objective of becoming like HBO. Will it succeed?

Don’t know if it’s becoming an HBO; it might be better. It’s great though that Netflix is offering exclusive content, making it another reason to subscribe.
