milestone_1997ATM manufacturer NCR Corp. recently exited the kiosk movie rental business, selling its Blockbuster Express venture to Redbox parent Coinstar. Now NCR is trying its hand selling movie tickets.

The company has announced a line of kiosks that vend movie tickets and concessions. NCR’s new Slimline 85 offer a 32-inch touch screen that features movie trailers, sells tickets to multiple theater locations, and displays a QR code reader for online purchase pickups.

Brian Whitney, managing director cinema, NCR Hospitality, said the following about his company’s new venture:

“We expect that this kiosk solution will be a real differentiator for theaters that are aggressively seeking unique ways to improve both the patron experience and per-cap figures,”

Redbox has already having trounced NCR in the movie rental game and is already selling tickets at some of its kiosks. Can NCR compete this time around?
