So I think the battle for DVD machines is over. Redbox has won. They are now in Walmart! It’s over, tell DVDplay and whoever else to pack it in. I mean really, Walmart, Walgreens, and McDonalds. Done it’s all over.

How do you get weekly codes? (besides using this website) Someone is receiving them. I only know about text messages on Monday for Monday only codes. But is there another email list for weekly codes?

now redbox is rereleasing movies as new releases that we have rented off of them 3-6 months ago. another trick they like to do is to change the pictures in the machines to get us to goof and rent a movie for a second time. anybody else notice? the new release 21 is one of them.

ILoveFreeMovies reply on July 23rd, 2008 6:14 am:
21 is a new DVD release everywhere, not just Redbox. I don’t recall it being released 3-6 months ago. It was originally released on March 28, 2008 at the box office.

I see that sometimes the RedBox machines have an empty case available for $1.00. I presume it is to allow one to return a DVD if you have lost the case. It ends up costing $1.00 additional but at least it stops the rental charges since a DVD can’t be returned without a case (as far as I know). I’m wondering, could I use a free (Monday) code to get a case for free and keep it or would I be charged $1.00 per day?
[Reply]
garpike reply on July 21st, 2008 2:14 pm:
Interesting question……I would assume you could get it with the monday code and keep it until you need it because you really can’t “return” an empty case, it has no barcode.
[Reply]
BOB reply on July 21st, 2008 5:41 pm:
IF IT HAS NO BARCODE. THEN HOW WILL THE MACHINE GIVE YOU AN EMPTY CASE?
[Reply]
Daniel reply on July 21st, 2008 8:33 pm:
actually the older cases do have a small barcode in the middle of the back side of the case, not sure about the new case, As for the original question why would you want to waste a promo code on a case you may never need? It is there for people that NEED them as a last resort because they were dumb enough to misplace the case, I mean come on, open case insert dvd into player set case ontop of dvd player watch movie, return to case and return to kiosk. how could you misplace a case unless your like here you go kids (tosses case to young children) have fun, and if you do that then you should pay the dollar for a replacement case.
snake reply on July 22nd, 2008 9:21 am:
I called Redbox and was told I could keep the case. The $1.00 charge buys the case. I got a case yesterday with a FREE Monday ONLY Code. The case has a barcode on a piece of paper inside. That is how it finds the case inside machine. It is treated like a DVD based upon the bar code. Directions say to remove the paper “code” and put the CD inside. I have several credit cards. I can use the Monday ONLY code on each card. I can not possibly watch more than two movies a day because I work full time. The empty case can be used at home to store CD/DVD. The cases is very durable

K — I GOT A STUPID QUESTION — first i would like to thank this site for many codes used — THANKS :)
my question is why some codes are reported not working when the code actually looks like a “WILD CODE” good at all redbox’s?
for instance “THX0708″ seems to be working everywhere accross the country — but “SUMMER1″ seems to location specific?
now i have entered codes before and the kiosk says something like ” can not authorize code at this time, please try later” — then i try it again in about 1-2mins and it works
it just seems that “THX0708″ seems to be a “GLOBAL” code.?
it should not have any “not working” @ wal-mart
but hey, if I gave you a penny for your thoughts.. then you gave me your two cents…………
……………………………. does that mean i get to keep the extra penny?
gave you a penny, you gave me two…….. nevermind
i will slow down :p
[Reply]
ben reply on July 21st, 2008 12:49 pm:
somebody may have more than 1 watch on…anyway, just a guess-timation, the code “thx0708″ COULD break down to mean thx(thanks)-07(july-the current month)-08(the current year)…
but what do i know

groovymovie reply on July 21st, 2008 4:34 pm:
yes codes are good because you can get a free movie with it if you enter the code and swipe your card you get a free movie at no cost for free that is cool good because one dollar seven is too expensive money cost

Does anyone know if VISA Gift cards work with Redbox? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
[Reply]
Daniel reply on July 20th, 2008 12:55 pm:
well this question has been answered several times on this sit but here again, Some work and some don’t for example if its a prepaid from your bank that has your name and address registered to the card it will, also the Walmart prepaid VISA MONEYCARD that is registered to you and your name appears on the card works but the walmart VISA GIFTCARD will not work even when registered, it appears the defining characteristic is that your name has to be on the card so that if you go over your balance they not only have your address but also the name of the person that rented the movie.

its dumb because you have to use a different card even if you use a different code. I used a code yesterday, they didn’t charge me, I used a different code today, and they charged me. thats such a hassle getting a different card every time u wanna rent $1 movie in my opinion.
anyone else have the same trouble?
[Reply]
Daniel reply on July 17th, 2008 7:54 pm:
no, I have only one card and I have used at least 70 different codes over the last 8 months on that one card. inorder for a code to work it must still be valid and you must not have already used it on that card, and if you enter a code you still get a $1 “hold” placed on your account and assuming you return it on time that hold is removed in 1-2 weeks. It is standard procedure for a business like this to place the $1 hold to verify the card is active and has sufficient funds for the first days rental. It is also stated in the terms of service which can be found on the REDBOX liosk touchscreen interface or there website.
[Reply]
Matt reply on July 18th, 2008 6:58 am:

Blockbuster is collecting new or used dvds for the troops! There is a drop box in the store and they will ship them to The tropps over-seas. I am donating a lot of my dvds that I know I will never watch again and suggest anyone who can please do the same. the cards you ordered might work, assuming your name is printed on the card and your address is registered with them.
I know for a fact that the walmart prepaid visa MONEYCARD that gets your name on it will work but the walmart prepaid visa GIFTCARD will not even when registered.
So it varies, I say if you already ordered them give it a shot and see.
John Las Vegas reply on July 16th, 2008 12:56 am:
They spped so when I get them I will try them out. If they work I will post the code I used for the waiver on the fee to purchase. The flat shipping is $5.99 up to 7 cards so just 1 code each would pay for them.

I agree with Groov…. I was afraid it was going to be anti-war propaganda but it was not. It was well written and does bring up an important issue in “Stop-Loss” policies. Wether you are for or against the war this movie does not judge the war. It is worth seeing.

Mike,
Why are “expired codes” still being listed? Would the chart simply look too small if there were only “working” codes listed?
[Reply]
Michael reply on July 13th, 2008 10:08 pm:
Its a bit more complicated than it seems. Yes, I could easily remove the expired codes, but they serve as a reference for many to see what the past codes have been.
Also, I have found it difficult to decide what an “expired” code actually is. Monday codes definitely fit the category, but other more “regular” codes sometimes start working again after awhile, so I don’t want to list them as expired and prevent them from showing.
I am working on taking the expired codes off of the list, and then allowing you to click to another page to see a more comprehensive list that shows expired and other removed codes. This is probably a more ideal way to handle it than the current setup.
Stay tuned! (and, I am always open to your ideas and suggestions…)
[Reply]
Alan Smithee reply on July 14th, 2008 2:54 am:
It’s sort of helpful to know which codes have expired so you don’t bother trying to use them again. Unless people aren’t being accurate with the listings though, it looks like some of them expire earlier in some places than others.

Did anyone see “Bone Eater”? It definatly looks tacky and cheap, but is it watchable? Any horror fans got comments for me. Also, “Grizzly Park” info? “The Ruins” was very good. “Alive or Dead”? was iffy at best. Worth watching with free code and if there are no other options.
