TGIF! Every week on “Freebie Friday”, we offer our readers an opportunity to win free prizes. This week, you have a chance to win a free copy of a DVD or Blu-ray of your choice, just by answering a fun question.

One of the big movie industry news stories this week was the continued growth of Blu-ray at the expense of DVD. Proving there is still an interest in physical media purchases for at least some consumers, the Blu-ray format is still showing steady growth.

To enter this week’s giveaway, simply answer the following question in the comments section below:

Have you upgraded from DVD to Blu-ray?

Tell us why you’re sticking with good old (and good enough) DVD. Or tell us why the superior picture and sound of Blu-ray are worth the cost of upgrading your home theater system and media collection.

On Monday the 24th, we will randomly select a winner from the submitted comments.

I am also not able to afford to change over to Blu-ray right now, so DVDs will have to do for now….

I’m sticking with DVD, due to the cost of upgrade; that is, the benefits of BR outweigh the money I’d have to spend to switch.

No Blu Ray yet. Hope to be sooner than never

I haven’t switched yet. I still haven’t even switched to a HD TV for our primary TV. More about cost than quality. Once I’m able to afford a new TV, I’ll likely switch to Blu-Ray shortly after that.

Haven’t upgraded to BR player yet but I probably will once the job market and economy improves. I would get a BR player that plays 3D.

We have a Blue Ray player because the cost at Sams Club wasn’t that different from the traditional Blue Ray player. There have been a few movies that just were so much more amazing by Blue Ray that it also made the expense so much worth it. I would rather watch a Blue Ray movie at home than go to the movie theater. The snacks are so much cheaper :)

I’m still using DVDs and VHSs. I won’t change to Blu-rays until I have to, due to the cost. Also, I’ve been told there’s not a huge difference with the quality of the Blu-rays.

DVDs. We have one blu-ray device, but only buy/rent blu-rays if they are all that’s available or if we really want to see/feel the difference.

We have both Blu-ray and DVD. I personnally cannot tell much difference as our TV has such a good picture with either.

We still have DVD until it breaks down, LOL, but when we can buy combo DVD/Bluray movies we do.

Same as many others, I am unable to afford to buy a Blue-Ray DVD player and the DVD’s themselves area much more than regular. I honestly don’t see that the video would be that much different to justify the expense.

We have a PS3 which plays blu-rays, but I wont go out for a new dvd player. My husband has started buying the occasional blu-ray, but for the most part we stick with the regular dvds.

I just got a Blu-ray and I have to say it’s pretty great – and much more enjoyable.
I have only purchased one Blu-ray disc so far, and will slowly exchange my regular dvd gems for new Blu-ray discs.

I’m tired of buying the same movies over and over every so many years.
If youre happy with DVDs stay the course!
Crap, even in Blu-Ray, is still crap!

It all breaks down to a matter of economics-when what I have gives out then it will be time to change.

If you already got a HDTV of significant size the picture improvment is noticeable. I’ve upgraded the players as the cost is not that high. The first player was the PS3 and it showed the improvment. Each of the others were store demo units as I got them for very cheap at Best buy.
I no longer buy DVD’s Just the Blueray disks. But I’m certainly not replacing the collection of older material, Just a few of the classics and favorites.

For now, I am sticking to DVD, mainly due to cost of the upgrade dn the consistent advancements in technologies. I will eventually upgrade to the newer technology but when the players are easily integrated with streaming video and computer websites such as youtube, facebook, amazon, netflix, etc all together instead of just a select few.

I’m sticking w/ DVD for now b/c I don’t want to spend the extra money to get to blu-ray equipment + better HDTV + higher costs of movies.

I will switch over to a blu-ray when I find a good deal on one!

I have BOTH DVDs and Bluray. For my favorite movies of old, DVD is still great! It doesn’t hurt that when played on my bluray player, it’s upconversion looks stunning! For computer animated favorites and movies with tons of special effects, bluray is king. I think there’s a place for each, but when given the choice to own a favorite movie, I go for the bluray.

I have both, but I only use the blue ray when we buy a movie.Dvd’s are good enough for me. When my dvd player checks out I will switch to blue ray. The BR player will still play the traditional dvd. I’m really waiting for the next new technology, and I do not mean streaming.

I’m sticking with DVD right now, due to the cost factor. When Blue-ray players and discs goe down, I’m sure I will make the switch, seeing as blue ray players will play a standard DVD………..my collection of standard DVD’s has got to be close to 1000! :-)

Bluray pricing is still prohibitive, so I’ll stick with DVDs

I have both DVD and Blu-Ray. I rent DVD, since it is cheaper unless it is a action blockbuster like Transformers, then I will rent Blu-Ray. I only buy Blu-Ray online to get cheaper rates than in stores.

We are sticking with DVDs until we see a need or a desire to upgrade to Bluray. Gosh, I only went to a DVR over a VCR 2.5 years ago (hides head) but it was the best move I ever made!!! ;)

I have a DVD player and have not felt the need nor been able to afford an upgrade. My DVDs play just fine. It’s kind of like the 3D craze – cool but not really worth the money!

Yes….TWICE(upstairs and downstairs!)………the prices of Bluray discs are dropping as well……coupled with the great audio, I love it!

I only have a dvd player, I will not purchase blue ray until the cost goes down. But the blue ray videos are really awesome to watch.

I use all forms of media. When I rent, I usually just get the DVD from redbox, when I use Netflix I search out more blu ray titles, and when I purchase movies, I always go for blu ray. Even though I own an apple tv, I usually don’t purchase hi definition content through iTunes because I don’t believe in paying a premium for digital downloads. I believe digital should be cheaper. Why should I pay the same for digital downloads when I can own a physical copy for the same price, or often cheaper?

I’ve got a PS3, so any new rentals or purchases have been bluray. But I still got my library of 1,000 DVDs collecting dust.
