TGIF! Every week on “Freebie Friday”, we offer our readers an opportunity to win free prizes. This week, you have a chance to win a free copy of a DVD or Blu-ray of your choice, just by answering a fun question.

One of the big movie industry news stories this week was Universal and Comcast’s abrupt decision to cancel their plans for $60 premium video-on-demand (VOD) rentals of the upcoming Eddie Murphy movie, Tower Heist. The great majority of commenters on this website said that there was no way they would pay anywhere near that price to watch a movie at home a few months early.

The drama surrounding Tower Heist got us thinking about the experience of watching a movie in theaters versus the experience of watching one at home.

To enter this week’s giveaway, simply answer the following question in the comments section below:

Which do you prefer: the movie theater or home theater experience?

Are the delicious popcorn and the thrill of being there on opening night worth the sticky floors and texting teens that come with the movie theater experience? Or do you prefer the comfort of your own couch and your own TV?

On Monday the 17th, we will randomly select a winner from the submitted comments. The winner will receive a free DVD or Blu-ray copy of a movie of their choice (to watch in your home theater!). Multiple comments will disqualify you, so please respond just once.

Absolutely my Home Theater!! I can pause the movie anytime to make my own popcorn or take a nature break. I control the temperature, have theater type seating, a 65″ Hi-Def screen and a Bose sound system. And I don’t have to endure people talking, kicking the back of my seat or manipulating noisy candy wrappers, which always happens to me at a movie theater. Also much less expensive staying home.

I would have to say the MOVIE THEATRE – there is nothing like the the big screen!

I still love going to see a movie in the movie theater. Just something about seeing a movie on the big screen and the smell of popcorn.

I would prefer to go to the movie theatre when a really great movie in 3D comes out. I don’t have a home theatre. My kids loves the movie theatre.

I have to say I prefer watching at home. I like being able to pause the
movie if I need to get a snack or go to the restroom, so I won’t miss anything.

I love a movie at home. My own comfy couch with my kids cuddled up with me, a good cocktail and big bowl of popcorn with apples. Can’t get that in a theater.

I enjoy going to the movie theatre. I love getting a large popcorn and soda combo (price is ridiculous though). The atmosphere of surrounding people in the same theatre enhances the movie experience for me.

We upgraded to Blu-Ray two years ago. We do see a big difference in the picture and sound quality. Add a Theatre system, which we have, and it couldn’t be closer to the real thing! It wasn’t as expensive as we expected it to be. Frankly; with the cost of going to a Cinema to see a movie, skyrocketing; and waiting less than six months to see it at home on our large screen Plasma TV, the cost of the unit hs been well worth it. Now that more movies are coming out on Blu-Ray, it is paying us back for all of those expensive movie tickets! And they redbox charges a mere 50 cents extra for the Blu-Ray option.

Well , they both are just as equally great ! My favorite place for 3D movies would definatly be the theater ! The new 3D experience can only be had there !! And while at home you have the authority to pause and use the restroom without missing something !!!!!!!
