Universal and Comcast are planning on charging $60 for premium video-on-demand (VOD) rentals of the upcoming Eddie Murphy movie, Tower Heist. For many consumers, sixty bucks seems like an outrageous amount to pay for the privilege of watching a movie at home a few weeks after it hits theaters.

What is the price you would be willing to pay for premium VOD?
How much is watching a recently released theatrical movie at home worth to you? $10? $20? Nada? We want to know what price point you think would be reasonable for studios and cable companies to charge.

10/10/11 UPDATE
Congratulations to Andrea, our winner. We’ll be in touch shortly about your prize!
Should be the same as a ticket to see the movie, about $10 and no more. You are watching it at home on a smaller screen, no reason to price gouge. But I probably wouldn’t use this service anyway.
I would have to say as much as u would pay at the theater like 13.00 dollars or so but deffently not no more
Ten dollars is great
I would say $5.00.
I wouldnt pay more than $5.00. I dont get to see it on a huge movie screen with all the effects and $100-K sound system. I am watching it on my tv at home.
$5… maybe a dollar or 2 more once 3D VODs become more available
I wouldn’t pay more than $7.50, the cost of the movie at first run.
i would pay 10 to 15 dollars if it a good movie that i want to watch at home instead of going to the theater and i dont have to leave b/c my kids needs to go potty or b/c its to loud in the theater . watching a movie at home is more relaxing and u can dress the way u want with not have some tlak throw out the whole movie .
Theater price is what I would pay – and no more than that! Otherwise, I can wait until it comes out to rent or buy. Some movies (like Avatar) I would only watch on the big screen. While there are advantages to having a recent release to watch at home, there are also disadvantages. Big screen is the big one. (Big popcorn is also a plus!)
There is no way I would pay that! Not on my little t.v.- I go to the movies for the experience, the sound, and the screen. If it was about 20 bucks, maybe.
I think $5 is reasonable, because you will not receive the movie theater experience. Therefore I believe a lower price should be charged.
I would not be willing to pay anymore than the cost of any other movie rental. I don’t mind waiting until a movie is released on DVD. After all, it is only a movie…not a necessity or priority.
I would not pay more than $7.50 or so. Its not like being at the theater.
