Universal and Comcast are planning on charging $60 for premium video-on-demand (VOD) rentals of the upcoming Eddie Murphy movie, Tower Heist. For many consumers, sixty bucks seems like an outrageous amount to pay for the privilege of watching a movie at home a few weeks after it hits theaters.

10/10/11 UPDATE
Congratulations to Andrea, our winner. We’ll be in touch shortly about your prize!
I would probably pay around $5.00 the most if I had to watch it at home and I would pay a little more at the movie theatre.
if i had the money to “blow” on being able to watch a recently released movie with the convience of staying home to see it instead of dealing with the theatres, i’d say $10-$15 at most. that is, if i actually had that money to waste…. as bad as that sounds…
$5.00. There’s always something else to watch rather than burn up money for on demand.
I wouldn’t pay nomore than 10th bones
There’s no way I’d pay anymore than the price of a single theater tix to watch a movie that’s several weeks old by the time it’s available on demand. Even that price is pretty far fetch as I probably don’t have great interest in any movie that I haven’t seen a week or 2 after its release.
I would pay 3 dollars! That’s as far as it gets
nothing, don’t you think that the monthly service charge is enough! i know people who pay cost to 300 bucks per month for television yet the sad part of that is that there are no new shows on1
Ten bucks tops for a film that’s already been out. Hollywood is about as far out of touch as any group can be in the USA when it comes to understanding America. Let them charge 60 bucks. And how’s Blu-Ray sales and 3D-TV sets working out for you too?
Nothing. I’ll wait for Redbox.
$5 seems fair enough. any higher and success would be minimal
I just wouldn’t. I don’t care if I’m one of the first to see a movie–I’d definitely wait for Redbox.
I don’t go to theaters anyway. I am content to wait for the dvd to come out and I ALWAYS get it from redbox. The last time I went to a theater was this summer and it was at the drive-in. $12 for the whole family to see 2 movies seemed like a pretty good treat for us. I am pretty cheap though!
I think $10 is reasonable. Maybe as much as $15. I’m sure the companies are thinking you’d get a group of friends together and split the cost, like some people do with pay-per-view sporting events. They surely imagine that they’re replacing the cost of several theater tickets with the $60. However, I don’t believe that it would work that way. People who like to go to the theater, will still go out. People who like to stay in, will continue to stay in.
I stand behind REDBOX in this one, $1.00 to view a move at home. I don’t go to the movies often because a family of four can drop $100.00 bucks easy! In my home we go old school and make popcorn, or what ever the snack of the day may be, hit the Redbox and Vila family night begins.
The most I would pay is $1.00, ever since redbox it pains be spend more than that. Yes, It’s convenient to click your remote and order a movie….but with redbox at every corner, I can always go run to the nearest one and be just as satisfied (if not more :) than if I “splurged”

I would pay maybe $20 to catch a movie at home. I also think that a reasonable amount, depending on a person money situation. But i actually preferred to watch it in the theaters for the actual experience or just wait to the dvd is released.
I would pay five bucks max. Anything more than that is just plain dumb
i cant with all honesty say id pay anything for it have to really be something i couldnt live without seeing but maybe 10 if it was the end of the world or my life depended on it lol
I wouldn’t pay for this…maybe $2 bucks or less. I love TV but i try to enjoy my days outside as much as possible.
$5 is the maximum I would pay. Same price as an early bird special at the movie theater.
I would probably only wnat to pay $5.00-$10.00 dollars at that most.
i would wait for redbox to get it.
5 bucks would be a fair price point
Five dollars would be my max. It’s half of what it would cost to see a movie in the theater.
I’d pay $20 since I could have friends over to watch it with me
The most I would pay is $5.00. I would be watching it on a smaller screen than in a theater, but I wouldn’t have to pay for popcorn!
5 bucks max.
I am not interested in VOD. I like streaming and using REDBOX when I want to see any movies. It is a lot cheaper and is the way I prefer.
I am not one that has to have everything when it first comes out. I would not pay anymore than a regular mover rental. Patience is a virtue.
$2. That’s $1 more than Redbox or Blockbuster Express for the convenience of not having to pick up and return the film.
$2, although I’m usually pretty patient and could wait until it’s available via Redbox.
$10 sounds about right…
No mor than $ 3.00
They would have to pay me so that I could go get some lube to make it easier when they charged me $60 bucks for their new VOD! What a joke!
I think $10.00 would be fair. It should be close to the price to see one at Carmike.
I would not pay any more than 10.00, and even then it would have to be an exceptional movie.
I wouldn’t pay a dime! I am loyal to REDBOX, they never fail me so why fix whats not broken right?!
I can wait for a release date; therefore I would not pay anymore than a redbox rental cost.
I won’t pay for this – retired, having to cut back on everything.
Anything over $8.00 is not worth it as you are watching it on a small screen with less then adequate sound. Wait for the DVD rental at $1.00.
