Universal and Comcast are planning on charging $60 for premium video-on-demand (VOD) rentals of the upcoming Eddie Murphy movie, Tower Heist. For many consumers, sixty bucks seems like an outrageous amount to pay for the privilege of watching a movie at home a few weeks after it hits theaters.

I think it should be a lot less expensive than the theater because I’m at home. I wouldn’t pay more than 3.00. They will be making enough money sending the movie out to a great many people at the same time to make it worth their while. Lastly unless you have a great theater system in your home you won’t have the same theater experience, just the convience of not having to leave home.

I would never pay more than $1 to see a movie at home, even if it was available BEFORE theatrical release!

I would not pay anything for VOD. I’d wait until the dvd release and rent it. If I liked it after renting, I’d purchase the dvd. But I’d never pay $60.

Hm…not sure. I don’t think I’d want a movie that’s still in theaters to rent in my home. Honestly, with the increase of rental systems (and Neflix-like services), it’s definitely taken away from the experience of actually going to the cinema and enjoying films. Yes, I do agree we gain a whole lot from these services, much more access to movies and all, but can’t we let alone films for a few months to be experienced where they’re meant to be, on a big screen?

Anyways…if I were to pay for it, a reasonable price might be $10. Honestly, that’s about a movie ticket, and in my opinion, getting the movie at home is a lesser experience than the theater (unless, of course, your home theater is really a home theater)

The most I would pay would be $10 because that would be about the same as in a theater.

I would pay 7.50 because that’s the price if I went to the movies, but I see the point because you would be paying for convenience so I would possibly pay $10 max if I had to pay but I would believe that I am paying enough to the service provider for my package and if they can actually get the movie while it is still in theaters why won’t they just charge pay-per-view prices in the first place and not these outrageous prices that they are trying to do.

There are some theaters (small/local) that still charge about $6.50 and they are the ones I go to…support local.

As far as VOD, if you don’t have the equipment to appreciate the technology, it would be a waste. Low bandwith, small screen, etc. all add up to not worth $60 a month. You can only watch so much TV and with Redbox being a $1, that would be 60 movies a month…can’t even think of that many movies to watch or have time. If you do, I want your job! I would maybe pay maybe $2 for a movie…not much more.

I wouldn’t pay anything because I have no intrest in seeing this movie. However if it was something I wanted to see my husband probably wouldn’t let me spend more than 5.00.

Convenience vs big screen… some movies just need to be seen on the big screen. I currently pay $6.50 per movie at our local theater. I’d probably be willing to pay about the same.

I rarely will rent any movie anymore for more than a couple dollars. For Eddie Murphy? Not a chance. I probably won’t ever see it. For a movie I really want to see, with redbox prices available I will wait.

I’d pay about 5 bucks for a movie still in theaters. My TV has Vudu and it charges that much for most new-to-disc movies which is too much; I only use that for their 99 cent daily specials, and might pay $2-3 for recent stuff if it went down that low.

I wouldn’t pay much over $5 for my family and me to watch a movie at home before it’s released in the theater. Very few movies are worth more than that and very few are worth watching before theatrical or DVD release anyway!

I never go out to the movies all that often because it has become WAY too expensive to see a movie at a theater. Even when I do decide to go it is always for the cheaper matinee. These companies should really consider that the normal person who is not rich REALLY needs a break. As it stands, I currently have the cheapest cable/internet/phone bundle I could get. $60 for the privilege of seeing a new movie is COMPLETELY outrageous! All that being said, I don’t think they should make the price cheaper than what you might pay for regular movie ticket. Maybe only a dollar or two tacked onto that for the convenience of watching it at home. I would HATE for movie theater businesses to suffer and all close down one by one. (Much like there are no music stores left practically anywhere anymore.)

I would pay up to $3.99 for a movie to watch at home if I really was interested in it. I do have a nice size TV, but it is nothing like the experience of the big screen. If I am going to invest money into a movie, it has to be worth my while. It is nice to have less expensive options such as Redbox. It gives us the opportunity to watch multiple movies without hurting the bank account!

I might pay up to $15 for a movie if it is something I really want to see right when it comes out in theaters.

I think $10.00 would be a fair price for a new movie release to watch at home. Anything more than that I would just wait for Redbox to get it. Love my Redbox!!!

I’m quite sure that I would not pay more than $10 for a new movie at home. If you think about it, you pay around that for a new movie at the theater. At the theater you get to watch it on a huge screen with great sound. If your house isn’t equipped to play a nice new movie well, then a lot of the experience is lost. So I think $10 would be a fair price since I’m paying the same amount, yet seeing it at home at much lower than optimal conditions.

I can’t afford to go to the movie theatre these days – I would certainly never pay $60 to watch a single movie. I would probably just wait for Redbox to have them available for rent ($1.00). If it were a movie that I really, really wanted to see, I might pay as much as $3.00 to see it sooner.

I wouldn’t pay any more than 5 buck.. paper view is only 3 dollars, and red box is 1 dollar. I could just wait until it comes out if thats the case and buy the movie.

I wouldn’t pay more than $1.00. I love the movie theater going experience. Yes, we pay out the nose for food and drinks, plus $10 or more for tickets… but my TV at home is only 47″. I want the BIG screen and the surround sound that I don’t have at home. I’m not gonna pay $60 to watch a movie just because it’s not on DVD yet, or is just recently released in theaters. Why pay $60 when I can go the the theater and see it for $10.

I wouldn’t pay one red cent. Some of these companies already charge a monthly amount. That should be plenty enough money to watch whatever movie no matter how new or old it is. =) No extra money from me. Sorry.

Sixty dollars? Crazy. Really. I doubt they will have many takers. You could buy lot of dvds for sixty dollars.

I wouldn’t pay more than $5 to see a pay per view movie.

Having $1 rentals from the box has spoiled me, so I can wait until the current movies hit Redbox & enjoy the movie in the comfort of my own home. I would not pay more than $3 for VOD.
