Facebook now has another VOD offering for movie fans. FlickLaunch.com has launched a Facebook-based video-on-demand service specializing in films from independent filmmakers and studios.
The service currently only consists of one title, but FlickLaunch says that a larger library is coming soon. Costs range from to and can be purchased in Facebook or PayPal credits.

According to FlickLaunch co-founder Craig Tanner, the company is looking to fill an underserved niche in the film industry. Says Tanner:
“Indie filmmakers were having trouble getting distribution and monetizing their content . . . We saw a hole and an opportunity there.

Tanner wants to use the extremely social nature of Facebook to spread the word on indie films and, ideally, keep the rental prices in Redbox territory. According to Tanner:
“We think the sweet spot for an indie VOD transaction is $1 to $2,”

Flicklaunch sounds like it has found it’s niche. If it understands it’s market and doesn’t try to overreach it could be quite successful.
