The slow downward spiral of the DVD has been well-chronicled on this and other websites. The parallel story to DVD’s decline is the rising share of the physical disc market commanded by Blu-ray.
In the week ending October 8, BD recorded its best week ever compared with DVD, bringing in more than 40% of total disc revenue. The week, which was driven by strong sales of The Lion King and Fast Five, saw the highest BD sales of any week outside Black Friday or the Christmas shopping season.
Blu-ray’s overall market share has steadily increased, rising to 35% in the last year alone.
As good as this news is for Blu-ray proponents, here’s the big question: is taking market share away from the DVD going to be enough to ensure BD’s long-term success? Have you shifted over to buying Blu-rays instead of DVDs, Insiders?

When I buy The Blu Rays, At this time I make sure I buy the combo pack which entails Blu-Ray Discs, DVD Disc, and a Digital Copy when the movie comes out on sale. for $22.99 for a tripple pack is well worth it.
I dropped the DVD format, Blu-ray only from now on.
I will still rent a movie from Redbox in DVD format if the Blu-ray is not
available.
Blu-ray will do until the new 4K format is invented :-)
I’ll take on-demand anything over Blu-Ray any day of the week. I don’t use plastic media any more.
I’m still have a DVD player. Mainly because of cost. Dvd’s are cheaper and you have a better selection. That’s my opinion of course.
We have a lot of Blu-Ray movies because my husband buys them. I don’t care if I watch a Blu-Ray movie or a regular DVD. On Demand is what I watch mostly because of the different series that I watch. I like to catch up on the episodes.
I use both formats, however I only rent discs. I bought movies for years and realized that I seldom watch any of them a second time.
I havent upgraded to do blu ray yet.
I just bought a new 48″ HDTV, blu ray might be in my future but right now DVD is looking great.
I haven’t upgraded up. The expense for regular dvd’s and dvd players is less compared to blu-ray. I’ve watched blu-ray and the difference in video/audio etc. is not worth the expense.

I think if people buy 1080p tv’s by a decent brand company and use an HDMI cord, they are gonna see a much better picture than using a CRT and composite cords. I also prefer to see movies without the sides cut off which is what alot of the old dvd’s are like. To me I enjoy seeing movies in better clarity and cleaned up. New movies look amazing on Blu to me. I have zero interest in dvd. I even wish they would use the format for older shows to fit more episodes per disc.
